One of the upcoming game releases in September is Payday 3, the third installment in the Payday game series. The game has been developed by Starbreeze Studios and distributed by Deep Silver. The game is a first-person survival co-op shooter game where you have to embark on “heists” as a team. The early access release date of the game is set to be on September 18, 2023 and the global full release date is set to be on September 21, 2023.
Until recently, most of the information about the game was hidden, but now it has been revealed, and fans are very excited. Hence, here is everything we know about Payday 3 so far, including heisters, future roadmap, and more.

The initial announcement for Payday 3 was made way back in May 2016 by the developers, Starbreeze Studios. The game was developed at Overkill Software, a Swedish game developers company but Starbreeze Studios had acquired the rights for the game with a huge sum of $30M USD. 5 years later, Plaion American decided to invest €50M Euro to help in the game’s development process and marketing. They also provided a total of 18 months of post-launch support with the help of the games as a service model.
The game has been developed using the Unreal Engine 4, as stated by the developers. It will be upgraded to the latest engine, Unreal Engine 5 after the game has been officially launched.
After 8 whole years of barely any information being released about the game, a teaser trailer titled “A New Criminal Dawn” was suddenly released by the developers on January 1, 2023. The teaser trailer was truly a huge tease because all it revealed was the game’s logo. Then, slowly Starbreeze began to talk about the game and they hinted at a 2023 or 2024 launch. They also said that Payday 3 console versions will be the same as the PC version, unlike the older Payday games.
The developers then went quiet again, but they came back with even better information at the end of August. In June 2023, Overkill Software officially announced that Payday 3 will be launching globally on September 21, 2023.
Overkill also said that there will be an early access release on September 18, 2033. With the early access release, players can pre-order the Silver and Gold editions of the game. There are a total of 5 editions of the Payday 3 game and they are given in detail as follows:

As for the promotional material, the developers arranged a special event for the game at the New Williamsburg Savings Bank on August 30, 2023. As for the heisters in the game, the crew includes Dallas, Wolf, Chains and Hoxton alongside 2 new heisters who were kept a secret.
Later, they were revealed to be Pearl and Joy on August 31, 2023, both of whose characters have been given new character designs to look older and more mature. Pearl’s character is an expert infiltrator and con artist who is great at both street and high-risk heists. On the other hand, Joy is a genius hacker and security expert, who aces at heists.

Payday 3 will take place 8 years after Payday 2 ended with all the heisters leaving their criminal lives and going their separate ways. Yet, they couldn’t stay away from the criminal life, so they are coming together again. Something worth noting is that this third installment will take place in the 20th century aka the 2020s.
The timeline of the game being in the 20th century also means new and advanced surveillance, technology and possibly a rise in cryptocurrency. For this reason, the developers have given the game a modern makeover which is quite visible in the exclusive gameplay trailer. The game looks a lot more polished and better suited to the surroundings we would see in the 2020s.
Lastly, the developers have released a full post-launch roadmap for Payday 3. The roadmap is spread throughout a whole year starting in the winter of 2023 and ending in the Fall of 2024. The roadmap was revealed on Payday 3’s official Twitter account with a tweet:

The roadmap tells us that there will be a total of 4 DLCs being released for Payday 3. Here is a list of the DLCs and their release windows:

- Boys in Blue – Spring 2024
- The Land of the Free – Summer 2024
- Fear and Greed – Fall 2024
