Indian esports tournament platform Gamerji has announced its expansion into the Southeast Asian market.
To tap into the growing esports scene in the region, the company has initially launched its platform in Indonesia and the Philippines with eight titles available.
The currently available games are PUBG Mobile, Free Fire, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), VALORANT, Clash Royale, Counter-Strike, Rocket League and EA Sports FC. Gamerji also offers virtual currency and a free three-day subscription to new users as a welcome gift.
Gamerji is an esports tournament platform founded in 2019 and headquartered in Ahmedabad, India. Hosting over 500 daily tournaments across 22 titles, the platform allows gamers and aspiring pro players from India and the MENA region to host matches, compete and win prizes.
In 2022, Gamerji raised $1.1m (~£860,000) and $3m (~£2.35m) in two funding rounds and commenced its international expansion with its launch in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
According to a press release, Gamerji currently has a user base of 10.8m players in India. However, the company aims to acquire 1m additional users from Southeast Asia within the next 12 months. The expansion into the Southeast Asian market plays a crucial role in Gamerji’s overall goal of reaching 20m users by May 2025.
The Southeast Asian esports market has experienced significant growth in recent years, particularly with mobile titles, such as MLBB and Free Fire, bringing in millions of fans. As the region continues making headlines, international esports organisations, including Team Liquid, Fnatic, and Team Vitality, have begun to tap into the market through partnerships and acquisitions.
Soham Thacker, CEO and Founder of Gamerji, commented on the expansion into Southeast Asia: “As esports continues its exponential growth, gaining recognition globally from esteemed Olympic councils to governments, educational institutions, brands, and industries, Gamerji is committed to enhancing its presence in SEA markets which has been witnessing the soaring popularity of esports.
“Our aim is to offer a comprehensive experience, where gamers can sharpen their skills through daily tournaments and enjoy a safe, fair, and exhilarating gaming environment, with rewards awaiting them.”
