Swedish esports bar and restaurant franchise Kappa Bar has expanded into Denmark with the launch of a venue in Copenhagen.

According to a release, the new bar is set to open in Q4 2024. The company’s expansion in Denmark will be led by Janus Skovby (Kappa Bar Denmark Master Franchise Owner), Leif Skovby (Skovby ApS Co-owner) and Thomas Larsen (Kappa Bar Denmark Proprietor).

Per Leif Skovby’s LinkedIn profile, Skovby ApS is the master franchisee of Kappa Bar Denmark.

Founded in 2016 as a basement bar in 2016 in Gothenburg, Sweden, Kappa Bar has grown significantly throughout the years. In 2022, the franchise acquired French esports bar chain Meltdown Bars, merging the businesses into Kappa Meltdown Group. In the 2022 announcement, Kappa Meltdown Group highlighted that it planned to open 100 venues by 2027.

Prior to its announced expansion in Denmark, Kappa Bar was only present in the Swedish scene, with locations across 10 cities. Janus Skovby noted in a release that the process to expand into Denmark has been ongoing for the past 18 months to find “the right location and partners.”

“We are extremely excited to bring Kappa Bar to Denmark. Denmark is at the forefront of competitive esports at a professional level and we want the experience at Kappa Bar to match that,” he stated.

“We have assembled a strong team with more than 100 years of combined experience in marketing & branding, sales, and franchising. But most importantly — we are all lifelong gamers with love and passion for a wide variety of games and esports, and we want that passion to shine through in everything we do.”

Similar to other Kappa Bar locations, the Copenhagen venue will feature gaming areas, food and drink options and will host events, such as quizzes and themed parties.
