Harmonix has now joined Epic Games to work together on “musical journeys and gameplay” for Fortnite, although Harmonix adds that it will continue with Rock Band DLC and Fuser events as normal. Over on the Epic Games site, the announcement reads, “Harmonix has a track record of creating fun and engaging music experiences designed for everyone to enjoy. As we work to build the metaverse, this expertise is needed to reimagine how music is experienced, created and distributed. The Harmonix team will collaborate closely with Epic to develop musical journeys and gameplay for Fortnite while continuing to support existing titles including Rock Band 4.”Vice president of game development at Epic Games Alain Tascan adds that “Music is already bringing millions of people together in Fortnite, from our emotes to global concerts and events. Together with the Harmonix team we will transform how players experience music, going from passive listeners to active participants.”A Harmonix blog post goes into a little more detail on what this acquisition means for the developer’s existing games. Harmonix says it will continue with its “existing DLC plans” for Rock Band, and that there won’t be any changes to Fuser events either. What do you think of this acquisition? What could it mean for Fortnite? Let us know what you think in the comments!
