There isn’t even confirmation of new Elden Ring achievements yet, but it seems even the announcement of a release date for DLC is enough as the Elden Ring Xbox player count has spiked — players are hightailing it back to the base game (one of the best RPGs on Xbox) following the news that the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC arrives on June 21.Our latest gameplay chart of the most popular Xbox games shows Elden Ring has jumped up 20 spots to make it back into the top 20, with a 78% increase in players since last week’s chart.Elden Ring has exploded with Xbox players since DLC revealIt seems the only possible reason for such a returning flood of players is Bandai Namco’s reveal of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC release date, alongside a shiny new gameplay trailer. That’s more than enough, however; Elden Ring is not only one of the best RPGs on Xbox, not only one of the best Xbox open world games, but also simply one of the best Xbox games to play on Xbox Series X|S. All to say, we don’t think anyone would need much persuasion to come back and play. What we know about the DLC so far is the fact that it’ll take us to a new place, with new weapons, equipment, enemies, boss encounters, plotlines, and more. That’s on top of the official blurb: “The Land of Shadow. A place obscured by the Erdtree. Where the goddess Marika first set foot. A land purged in an unsung battle. Set ablaze by Messmer’s flame. It was to this land that Miquella departed. Divesting himself of his flesh, his strength, his lineage. Of all things Golden. And now Miquella awaits the return of his promised Lord.”The Elden Ring DLC isn’t out until June, so perhaps we’ll see these player numbers dip again before that, but there’s no doubt they’ll spike as soon as Shadow of the Erdtree arrives. In the meantime, if you’re new to the base game, we have a comprehensive Elden Ring review to check out.
