If there’s one thing FromSoftware consistently nails, it’s hub zones. Firelink Shrine, Roundtable Hold, The Nexus, and Hunter’s Dream all ooze atmosphere, and provide brief respite between getting your head stomped. My favorite has always been Dark Souls 2’s Majula, though. The quaint village is bathed in calm sunlight, punctuated by sparse piano notes. It’s a far cry from the challenges that await you, and becomes more welcoming each time you return. If you wish Elden Ring’s Roundtable Hold was more like Majula, have I got just the mod for you.
The newest Elden Ring mod from creator ‘Dropoff’ is here, and it makes one simple but incredible change: it turns the open-world game’s hub zone into Majula from Dark Souls 2. The region’s lighting, music, atmosphere, and ram-shackled design are all intact. You can even find the nigh-bottomless well in the middle of the town, but it’s definitely still a safety hazard.
As a Dark Souls 2 lover, this is the kind of Elden Ring conversion I live for. You won’t find Sweet Shalquoir or Blacksmith Lenigrast here, though. Instead, Dropoff has replaced DS2’s characters with Elden Ring’s NPCs. So you can still treat Majula just like you would Roundtable Hold, as a safe hub to upgrade at before you venture out.
I’m overcome with an immense sense of joy at the prospect of returning to Majula. DS2 is the oft-maligned black sheep of the Souls series (with more sluggish combat and the healing lifegems two of the game’s biggest problems), but I’ll always adore it. Dark Souls 2 dared to be different from its predecessor, and while that didn’t always work out, I appreciate the effort. I’m not alone in this, either, as one modder recently remastered vanilla Dark Souls 2.
If you ever fancy starting a New Game Plus run with the Majula mod installed, Dropoff has some advice. You need to go to the Victor’s Stone, which is just to the right of the door heading to Heide’s Tower of Flame.
You can find Dropoff’s Elden Ring Majula mod right here, but you’ll need to use mod engine 2 with sound support to get everything sorted.
If you’re planning on diving back into The Lands Between with this Majula mod, we’ve put together all the best Elden Ring builds and Elden Ring weapons to help you get through the challenges.
