Feast your eyes, Elden Ring fans, because after much anticipation Bandai Namco and FromSoftware have not only revealed the release date for the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, which arrives on June 21, but also dropped a lovely new gameplay trailer. Check it out below.”The Land of Shadow. A place obscured by the Erdtree. Where the goddess Marika first set foot. A land purged in an unsung battle. Set ablaze by Messmer’s flame. It was to this land that Miquella departed. Divesting himself of his flesh, his strength, his lineage. Of all things Golden. And now Miquella awaits the return of his promised Lord.”Bandai Namco has a little extra info on the lore behind this DLC: “Guided by Empyrean Miquella, players are beckoned to the Land of Shadow, a place obscured by the Erdtree where the goddess Marika first set foot. In these strange new lands, players discover the dark secrets of the world as they meet others who follow in Miquella’s footsteps with ulterior motives.”This DLC takes us to a new place; the Land of Shadow, which according to Bandai Namco features “vast maps interspersed with diverse situations and meticulous dungeons where menacing enemies roam.” In addition to new lands, the DLC also adds new weapons, equipment, enemies, boss encounters, plotlines, weapon skills, and “magic not found in the base game.” There are a number of different editions available for preorder: the standard Shadow of the Erdtree expansion and the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree edition (which bundles together the game and the DLC) are the base editions. Then there is the digital Premium bundle, which gets you the DLC, and an art book and bonus soundtrack content for the DLC, and the Deluxe edition, which gets art books and soundtracks for the base game and DLC, as well as the actual game and expansion themselves. Finally — we’re almost done — there’s the limited Collector’s edition with a voucher code for the DLC on whichever platform you’re playing on, a statue of “Messmer the Impaler,” a physical art book, and a digital soundtrack. On top of all that, there is also limited merchandise in the Bandai Namco Entertainment Store itself, such as the Helmet of Messmer the Impaler. These editions aren’t currently showing with prices on the Xbox store, but on Steam we’ve got £34.99 for just the DLC, £64.99 for the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Edition, £39.99 for the digital Premium bundle, and £84.99 for the Deluxe edition. There isn’t any word yet on whether new Elden Ring achievements will come with the DLC, but we can hope…In the meantime, we’ve got the base game itself, which we reckon is one of the best RPGs on Xbox, one of the best Xbox open world games, and in fact, simply one of the best Xbox games you should play on Xbox Series X|S.
