Esports Entertainment Group has announced that EGL and Helix eSports have partnered with Riot Games to host a North American LCS Proving Grounds qualifier in 2021.

Unfolding over three weeks, starting in mid-July, the finals boasts a $10,000 (~£7,096) prize pool and sees teams earn tiered qualification points for a shot to move into the LCS Proving Grounds.

According to the release, the exact format of the qualifier tournament has not yet been revealed, however, it will follow a traditional bracket format with the best team moving on to the ‘Grand Finals’ for a shot at LCS Proving Ground’s penultimate event.

Helix eSports owns five esports centres, which have been used to host social and competitive monthly tournaments held there.

Murph Vandervelde, Co-founder of Helix eSports commented: “We are excited to partner with Riot Games on one of the most exciting annual sports tournaments globally.

“This is a great opportunity to provide our ecosystem of amateur teams with a chance to take the next step in their esports careers.”

Magnus Leppaniemi, President of Esports for Esports Entertainment Group added: “Hosting the LCS Proving Grounds is a major win for our tournament-focused entertainment pillar.”

The Summer 2021 North American LCS Proving Grounds tournament is scheduled to start on July 12th-13th, with the next set of dates taking place on July 19th-20th, ending with the Grand Finals a week later on July 26th-27th.

EGL is a B2B-centric provider of live and online events and tournaments. In January 2021, Esports Entertainment Group completed its acquisition of EGL and signed a binding agreement for the acquisition of Helix eSports.

Esports Insider says: It’s no surprise to see these organisations team up together with Riot Games as Helix eSports owns some of the largest centres in North America, and EGL will be happy to get its hands on an upcoming tournament such as this one.
