Early PS5 Pro User Tries Using Slim Covers

The physical design of the PS5 Pro is remarkably similar to the Slim model. The major difference are the three fins near the middle of the console. This posed the question, could PS5 Pro owners use preexisting Slim covers on the enhanced console? Well, someone who got the console a bit early has the answer.

Can players use slim covers on the PS5 Pro?

In a recent post on the PlayStation subreddit, user Zrorro attempted to use slim plates on the PS5 Pro. Specifically, they tried to use the Cobalt plates. They quite literally got mixed results.

“I had some Cobalt blue plates so I decided to try them out on the Pro and I can confirm the bottom plates match the slim however the top plates do not match because while they’re physically the same size,” writes Zrorro. “The teeth that connect to the system are and slightly different places.”

So, there you have it. Unfortunately, the Slim plates are not entirely accessible with the PS5 Pro. However, anyone looking to mix and match plates can totally do so. Personally, I think the Volcanic Red would look pretty rad with the stark white of the console. That being said, a minimum of $54.99 (for the Midnight Black covers) seems like a bit much to only use the bottom covers.

The PS5 Pro launches on November 7, 2024, and costs $699.99. Players who want to add a disc drive will have to purchase it separately for $79.99. The console’s “big three” features include a larger GPU, advanced ray tracing, and AI upscaling. Over 80 games will have dedicated updates for the enhanced console that utilize the new tech. This includes both PlayStation first party, and third party games. Rise of the Ronin, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, and Spider-Man 2 have already implemented its new update to ensure PS5 Pro players can check out the new graphics modes on day one.
