Pokémon Legends: Arceus is an unusual Pokémon game in many ways, including its starter Pokémon selection which is entirely made up of Pokémon from different previous games and regions. But if you’re unhappy with the starter selection of Oshawott, Rowlet, or Cyndaquil, it’s pretty easy to get one of a few different starter Pokémon relatively early on in the game.Warning: Spoilers for Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ available Pokémon, new Pokémon forms, and sidequests follow. Read at your own risk! The starters in question that are available are the original Sinnoh (Diamond and Pearl) starters: Chimchar, Turtwig, and Piplup. And if you’re lucky and hunt carefully, you can get all three decently early on and use them through the majority of the game. The first you’re likely to run into is Chimchar, who is the subject of the quest ‘The Mysterious Will o’ the Wisp.’ By following this quest you’ll automatically encounter a Chimchar to catch, but there are other ways to get one. Chimchar can appear sparingly in a few spots in the Obsidian Fieldlands but are most common on Ramanas Island. Just be aware of the giant alpha Infernape roaming around with them.Once you reach the Crimson Mirelands, you can potentially track down a Turtwig by heading to the Droning Meadow and checking around a little pond you can find there. You may have to pass the Cottonsedge Prairie on your way there, which has a roaming alpha Torterra at its center. And finally, in the Cobalt Coastlands, heading over to the Islepy Shore will immediately reveal a terrifying alpha Empoleon on the coastline, but head past it to the small pond to the north to find Piplups. All New Pokemon in Legends: ArceusThese aren’t the only starter Pokémon you can find in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. You can also find more of the three starters from Hisui: Oshawott, Cyndaquil, and Rowlet in space-time distortions, meaning you’re not limited to only having the one you picked from the get-go. You’ll also receive the remaining two from Professor Laventon after the credits roll. Finally, of course, you can find Pikachu and Eevee roaming the wilds, most obviously in the Obsidian Fieldlands, though both can be a bit elusive.
