In a wild MLB trade deadline day, the expectation was that the Colorado Rockies were going to trade Trevor Story but it never happened.

The MLB trade deadline has come and gone, with countless superstar players finding out they’ll be suiting up for a new team. However, the same can’t be said for Colorado Rockies standout Trevor Story.

The shortstop was expected to be traded on Friday, but a deal never went down and he’ll remain in the NL West for the rest of the season. This is a bit of a surprise, but it’s clear the Rockies didn’t get presented with a sexy enough package to send him out of town.

Trevor Story wasn’t traded by the Colorado Rockies on deadline day

For the past few weeks, Story had been linked with a move to the New York Yankees, New York Mets, San Francisco Giants, Toronto Blue Jays and others. New York seemed like an intriguing option for Story, as Brian Cashman has been feeling the pressure from folks in the Bronx.

While the Yankees did land Anthony Rizzo and Joey Gallo, a trade for Story never went through. Story is known for his fantastic glove, as he’s one of the best defensive shortstops in the game. On the year, he’s hitting .240 with 13 homers and 48 RBI.

For the Rockies, they’re in the middle of another tough season. The club is in fourth place in the NL West standings with their 44-59 record. With the postseason out of reach, countless insiders anticipated Story getting dealt to try and help the team bring in some top prospects.

Instead, Story indeed will close out the campaign in Denver with the Rockies. With him in the last year of his contract, the Rockies may end up regretting not getting something in return for him. It’d be surprising if he re-signs with the club this offseason.
