Days Gone creative director and writer John Garvin has taken issue with the fact that the video game appeared in Sony’s recent platformer Astro Bot.
In a recent post on social media, Garvin shared a photo of the game’s character, Deacon St. John, as a small robot, watching two robotic dog plays that came from a post of Bend Studio congratulating Team Asobi on Astro Bot’s launch.
What did the Days Gone director say?
In the post, Garvin lamented that the character had been reduced to “promoting other games.” In a subsequent post, Garvin also chided fans who didn’t understand the anger. “Haha, I see my character reduced to a cartoon schill promoting some small game and I’m being harsh?” said Garvin in the post.
Garvin has been a loud proponent for 2019’s Days Gone ever since its launch. In 2022, the former Bend Studio member blamed “woke reviewers” for the game’s poor reception, a move that forced Bend Studio to distance themselves from Garvin in a social media post. As far as the game goes, a sequel to Days Gone is not in the works, with Bend Studio reported to be working on a new live-service title.
