To put it short, if you’re used to chroming up in Cyberpunk 2077, you’re in for a rude awakening. Now you’ll have to give your favorite Ripperdoc a visit every now and then to constantly upgrade your tech to stay ahead. There are many new factors at play here and you have to keep every single one in mind.
Cyberpunk 2077 Cyberware in 2.0 Explained
Cyberware in 2.0 has undergone two big changes. There is now a Cyberware Capacity which determines how much chrome you can handle and Armor which has replaced the armor you used to get from clothing. Both are affected by the Perks you pick and different Cyberware scales with different stats.
Cyberware Capacity
The new Cyberware Capacity is one of the more fun changes Cyberpunk 2077 has introduced with its 2.0 changes. Instead of being able to Chrome up as much as you like, you are now limited by how much and what kind of Cyberware you can install.
For example, you can no longer use a Sandevistan while still having access to quickhacks. It might sound stupid at first, but it is great to force players to commit to certain playstyles and builds instead of having all the tools at your disposal at all times.
The only consequence of this is that you’re fairly limited in terms of options. You can get more access to higher Cyberware Capacity by picking Perks such as “Licensed to Chrome” or “Edgerunner”. The latter even allows you to break the Capacity at the cost of health points.
Cyberware Armor
Armor is the more straightforward stat of the two. As mentioned above it replaced the defensive values clothing used to give you. These Armor Points can be gained by equipping different kinds of Cyberware. Be it the Integumentary System Cyberware which directly affects the way you take different types of damage or overall improvements to your legs for example.
You can play around with different configurations to find the one that works for you, sometimes you’ll need to trade functionality for protection to get an edge in combat. The way it works now, players have the opportunity to constantly optimize the way their character plays.
Quickhacks
The way Quickhacks are used has also changed a bit. Before you used to be able to slot as many as your Operating System could fit. It’s still kind of like that, but you can now opt to discard an Operating System Cyberdeck that can hold Quickhacks for the sake of a Berserk or Sandevistan which gives you special abilities.
Quickhacks can also be upgraded by using special materials and are now grouped in tiers that come with their own stats that scale off your Perks and Attributes.
How to Upgrade Cyberware
You probably also wondered where the old crafting system went. Well, it’s gone. Now you’re upgrading your Cyberware in different tiers at Ripperdocs instead of wasting valuable Perks on them. You get upgraded materials by either buying them or finding them in the world, and then you can upgrade your cyberwar to a higher tier and depending on your Perks finetune their bonuses.
As you progress through the game, you can buy better Cyberware tiers at Ripperdocs or even find them in Night City. The major difference here is only that the price will be significantly higher and you have less influence over the way their stats and scaling are distributed.
That sums up everything you need to know about Cyberware in Cyberpunk 2077s 2.0 Patch. We’ll have more on Cyberpunk and its Phantom Liberty expansion very soon here on ESTNN
