North American esports organisation Complexity Gaming has signed a partnership with blockchain platform Sonic, developed by Sonic Labs.
As Complexity’s blockchain partner, Sonic will be integrated into the organisation’s branding, tournaments and community initiatives.
The blockchain solution will receive a logo placement on Complexity’s jerseys and livestream banners. Moreover, Sonic will be integrated into the company’s tournament coverage and highlights throughout the year.
Sonic will also be included in the Complexity web3 fan application built on the new Sonic network. The app aims to elevate interactions between Complexity fans and their favourite team and players, featuring weekly and monthly ‘quests’ with rewards.
The collaboration will commence with the first Sonic Community Night on August 30th. The new community initiative, developed by Sonic, includes live-stream community gaming events and video highlights shared across several platforms.
Sonic will also sponsor Complexity’s monthly Counter-Strike NA Revival Series tournaments and the Counter-Strike NA LAN event planned to take place in May 2025.
Sonic Labs, previously known as the Fantom Foundation, is the operator behind the Sonic blockchain platform. Specialising in Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) chains, Sonic is set to launch towards the end of 2024.
Founded in 2003, Complexity Gaming is one of esports’ longest-standing organisations known for its competitive achievements in various games, such as Counter-Strike, Halo and Rocket League. The company has previously worked with the US Army, sports social media platform Playmaker and retail chain H-E-B.
In March 2024, Complexity’s Founder, Jason Lake, re-acquired the organisation after selling Complexity to GameSquare in 2021.
Complexity’s investment in web3 and blockchain is unsurprising as the company expressed interest in the field related to the appointment of Adam Rivera as a Web3 Gaming Advisor earlier this year.
Jason Lake commented on the partnership with Sonic: “The Sonic Labs team is dedicated to bringing the excitement of gaming on-chain with the launch of Sonic later this year, and we’re excited to have them as an official sponsor to help realize that vision.
“In speaking with their leadership, it’s clear the team is committed to the gaming space and with our collaborative efforts around fan engagement, community participation, and gaming experience, we’re confident that Sonic will be a prominent player in the games industry for the foreseeable future.”
