UFC 272: Colby Covington vs. Jorge Masvidal live results and highlights
Good friends once, bitter enemies now. There’s no love lost between Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal; in fact, their hatred has seemed to just intensify further in the lead up to their UFC 272 main event bout.
Covington and Masvidal were once best of friends and teammates at American Top Team. But their friendship began to deteriorate in 2018 after Covington allegedly failed to pay one of Masvidal’s coaches following his UFC 225 interim welterweight title win.
Things continued to escalate, eventually reaching a point where both men were kicked out of American Top Team by owner Dan Lambert. Covington now trains at MMA Masters, while Masvidal returned to ATT.
Covington comes into this bout off a second unsuccessful challenge of Kamaru Usman and the UFC welterweight championship, dropping a close decision at UFC 268 in November. Masvidal enters, meanwhile, off two straight unsuccessful attempts at Usman — dropping a late-notice decision at UFC 251 and a second-round knockout at UFC 261.
