Activision has confirmed Season 5 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone will arrive on August 2, and the official roadmap reveals several maps and modes are headed to multiplayer, while Warzone will get new vehicles, equipment, and an in-game reveal event for Call of Duty 2023.

Call of Duty Season 5 is themed around Shadow Company and the group’s former leader, Phillip Graves. As usual, the season includes a brand-new battle pass to level up, with the free, premium, and extra-premium Blackcell battle pass options available to choose from.

Six operators are introduced for this final season, including Graves, Oz, and Mila. Graves is the operator for the premium battle pass, and the others will be made available as shop bundles. Activision says some bundles will be available at launch, while others will arrive shortly after the start of Season 5. Hip hop artists are also arriving as operator bundles, with Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, and 21 Savage all getting operator bundles during during the season.

The season has six new weapons. The FR Avancer assault rifle and the Carrack .300 sniper rifle will be in the free tiers of the battle pass, while the M13C assault rifle, a new submachine gun, pistol, and a melee weapon will be added later with in-game challenges.

Two new vehicles will arrive in Season 5 to give players new ways to traverse Warzone maps. The MRAP is a large armored vehicle with turrets made for serious fights, and dirt bikes will be available as a quick, two-passenger option. The season will also add Al Mazrah’s Champion’s Quest nuke challenge to Vondel’s battle royale map.

On the DMZ side, new missions will be available as will brand-new field upgrades that players can unlock for use. These new field upgrades include the Disguise field upgrade to change appearance to look like a member of the AI enemy faction, Battle Revive for self-reviving and going into a Battle Rage, and a Self-Revive Box upgrade for getting extra revives. There’s also the Scuba Gas Mask field upgrade to protect against radioactive elements and allow for breathing underwater for a limited time.

Warzone will also host the in-game reveal event for Call of Duty 2023, but Activision says more details will be revealed at a later time. New modes were also teased for later in the season, including the return of Armored Royale and the new Fort Resurgence mode.

Modern Warfare 2

Season 5 includes several new multiplayer maps. Two standard maps will arrive at launch, with Punta Mar being described as a brand-new map themed around an evacuated tourist attraction in Las Almas, and Strike is returning as a remastered map from 2007’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Lounge and Canal will be the two Gunfight maps arriving at launch.

Later in the season, DRC – Zone 1 will arrive as a core map based on a portion of the Building 21 excursion zone in DMZ.

The update will add new game modes to multiplayer, including a brand-new roguelike game mode called Havoc. Activision describes this as being “inspired by classic arena-shooter gameplay, then further enhanced with the injection of a random selection of frenzy-inducing modifiers.” Each match starts like a game of Team Deathmatch, but players will receive enhancement modifiers that change the gameplay. Perk packages, killstreaks, and field upgrades aren’t available in Havoc, and instead the match will include one of 14 different modifiers, such as moon gravity to affect player jump heights, flame-tipped crossbows, and swapping to a third-person perspective.

Other Season 5 game modes include variants of Gunfight and a large-scale 20v20 Capture the Flag mode.
