A look back at all the action from day one of the CDL Major 1 in this recap.
The first Major of the 2022 Call of Duty League season got underway last night. Here’s everything that went down in the first four matches of the event in our CDL Major 1 recap.
London Royal Ravens 3-2 LA Guerrillas
The London Royal Ravens took a 1-0 lead in the series in a very close Tuscan Hardpoint. The Ravens only rotated first to three hills in this map. Their exceptional breaks allowed them to get inside the point, and take the map 250-241. In map two, the Los Angeles Guerrillas replied, winning in round 11. However, London definitely had chances to win this map, having multiple 4v2 situations taken away from them.
Map three also went the way of the Guerrillas. Despite the Royal Ravens executing the fastest offensive Control round of the season so far, coming out hot on Gavutu. Slasher was the main slayer here, ending the map with a 1.56 K/D. The Ravens responded in the best way possible, 100 point drubbing of the Guerrillas and tying the series 2-2. Gismo was back to his best here, putting up a 1.63 K/D in map four. The veteran Zer0 stepped up in game five to close out the series for London, seeing them advance to the next round in Winners.
Atlanta FaZe 3-0 Boston Breach
Simp absolutely dominated in map one, going 46-30 and blowing Boston Breach off the map. While the scoreline was closer than it should have been at 250-207. FaZe looked strong and started this series in a Major winning fashion. Arcitys took over in the Search and Destroy, dropping 12 kills and putting his FaZe roster in a great position to close out the series.
Atlanta FaZe closed out the series in a quick 3-0 with Simp demolishing the Breach. Simp dropped 42 kills in map three, going positive 22 with a 2.10 K/D. This resulted in Simp finishing the series with a 1.75 overall K/D, with 96 kills across three maps.
Toronto Ultra 3-2 LA Thieves
This match was one of the hardest to call in this first round of matches. With LA Thieves and Toronto Ultra both looking like top three teams. LA Thieves took the lead, winning Gavutu Hardpoint 250-167 with Envoy dropping 30 kills with a 1.43 K/D. Toronto replied with a dominant 6-2 Search and Destroy win, before continuing that momentum into the Control, taking a 2-1 series lead.
Hardpoint seemed to be the Thieves game, winning map four 250-145 on Berlin, and forcing a game five in dominant fashion. However, game five swung back into Ultra’s favour as they took a 6-3 victory, with Insight dominating and finishing the map 10-4.
OpTic Texas 3-0 Seattle Surge
OpTic Texas started this match hot, and even after the delay, they dominated and took a 3-0 win. Shotzzy performed at his best in map one, dropping 41 kills on Bocage Hardpoint, leading his OpTic team to a 250-209 win. In Map two, it was just as dominant. A 6-3 victory saw OpTic take a 2-0 lead in the series, and fully take control of the momentum. The Control could have came close, but just on queue for the release of The Batman, Dashy, a.k.a Bruce woke up and went double positive, putting up 40 kills to win the map.
