Will Reapered lead Cloud9 back to the top of the LCS mountain?

Cloud9 has announced today that it is re-signing its former coach, Bok “Reapered” Han-gyu, ahead of the 2024 LCS Summer Split. This move comes after the confirmation from Cloud9 and Alfonso “Mithy” Aguirre Rodríguez himself that he would be stepping down from his role as the C9 head coach. This move comes as no surprise following the underwhelming Spring Split, which saw Cloud9 fail to qualify for the Mid-Season Invitational despite having one of the best rosters on paper in LCS history.

Cloud9 re-signs Reapered, the South Korean coach, returns home four years after departing from the organization in 2020. The South Korean coach left his position following the collapse of what was meant to be one of the most dominant years in LCS history. After a 17 regular season, followed by a 9-1 playoffs, Cloud9 hoisted their first trophy in six years. This was followed up by another strong regular season before a historic collapse, which saw C9 fail to qualify for Worlds 2020, the first time in the organization’s history they would not be representing their region on the biggest stage.

Reapered joined Cloud9 in 2016 summer and helped them reach multiple LCS finals, multiple Worlds quarter-final appearances, and a historic Worlds semi-final appearance – the furthest any North American roster has reached at the World Championship.

Reapereds Journey Back To Re-signing with Cloud9

Since leaving Cloud9, Reapered joined fellow LCS organization 100 Thieves, where he would also find success, bringing them back to Worlds and winning their first LCS title. Following on from 100T, Reapered joined the LJL, where he coached Sengoku Gaming from 2022 to 2023. Reapered is not the only change Cloud9 is reportedly making. Sheep Esports reported Ibrahim “Fudge” Allami would be replaced by highly touted Korean prospect Park “Thanatos” Seung-gyu on the starting roster.
