Kirk Herbstreit was on the College Football Playoff rankings reveal show and offered plenty of reactions to the first CFP rankings for 2021.

We can finally stop debating about what the CFP rankings are going to look like as the first College Football Playoff rankings were finally released on Tuesday night. However, the debates are just getting started.

With the top four, in order, being revealed as Georgia, Alabama, Michigan State and Oregon, there was a ton to talk about. The Ducks earned the nod over Ohio State but, most notably, the Cincinnati Bearcats came in all the way down at No. 6 in quite the shocking move from the committee.

ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit was on the reveal show and, throughout, he gave us some intriguing reactions to the first CFP rankings of the season.

The most notable thing Herbstreit had to say concerned Cincinnati, an undefeated team with a win over No. 10-ranked Notre Dame that came in at No. 6 behind four one-loss teams.

Herbstreit noted that Bearcats fans should not just be rooting for Georgia to win out and, hopefully, knock Alabama out in the SEC Championship Game and for the Big Ten to sort itself out between Michigan State and Ohio State, but that Cincinnati should also be hoping Oklahoma falters as the Sooners could jump them.

Speaking of Georgia, Herbstreit also heaped praise on the Bulldogs, saying it’s clearly “Georgia and everyone else.”

The other big thought that the ESPN analyst had involved Oregon getting the nod for No. 4 over Ohio State, a team that came in at No. 5. Herbstreit credited that decision to the Ducks ironing things out over the past few weeks.

Kirk Herbstreit is one of the voices that holds a ton of weight in the college football world. So it’s always interesting to hear his thoughts, especially when it comes to a big moment in the season like the first College Football Playoff rankings.
