If you’re building a gaming PC, you want it to stand out, and that’s exactly what this Half-Life gaming PC build has achieved. Created to celebrate the recent release of the Half-Life 2 RTX demo, this gaming PC captures the industrial vibe of the game perfectly, thanks to a pseudo-dirty gray and yellow exterior using custom-designed components.
This Half-Life 2 themed build is a gamer’s dream with specs to rival the best gaming PCs out there. Taking an otherwise fairly basic case, the designer has used their CAD design skills to create a PC build to stand the test of time. Most of the external design elements are 3D printed, finishing off the look with filler and textured paint, along with a “radioactive” reservoir positioned at the front. The specs aren’t bad either, with a show-stopping Nvidia GeForce GPU and Intel CPU providing some serious gaming heft.
This gaming PC caught my eye via the Nvidia GeForce YouTube channel. Built by Ron Lee Christianson at Blue Horse Studios, this gaming rig’s design is a total triumph, built to celebrate the release of the Half-Life 2 RTX demo. This isn’t the first Half-Life PC that Christianson has designed, however. With this PC named “Black Mesa 2.0,” he built the original 15 years ago using just styrene and ABS panels to create everything from scratch.
This build, however, is a totally different beast. Christianson replaced all of the panels on the Cougar Panzer Max PC case used here with 3D-printed components, going all-out with a distressed look that suits the game’s aesthetics perfectly. Christianson designed and tested everything himself, building up the design over several revisions until he reached this incredible end product, completely upending the original case design to build a much more dramatic effect.
One of my favorite features of the build is the decision to make the biohazard-themed reservoir for the water cooling system a visible feature at the front of the case, with the tubing coming out above it. This is an inspired choice, taking a component that could otherwise sit relatively hidden inside, and making it a core feature of the build design. There’s also a built-in fog machine that expels smoke outside of the back panel, just to add extra ambience.
Christianson’s speciality is prop design, and he’s used those skills to great effect here. This isn’t a build that needs to rely on RGB to stand out, because the textures, colors, and components that Christianson has used here add up to a stunning gaming PC that truly captures the essence of the Half-Life world in all of its gloomy glory.
The specs are just as impressive, too. Along with the best graphics card that you can buy in the RTX 5090, there’s also the powerful Intel Core i9 14900K gaming CPU.
