For most gamers looking to build a new PC, the choice is simple – black or white, with maybe a bit of RGB on top to spice up the look. There’s nothing wrong with that, but if you’re looking for something that breaks out from the standard PC case duopoly, then what about a walnut themed wood gaming PC build? This impressive DIY case manages to look stylish while fitting a pretty decent, budget-friendly PC inside.
This case comes straight from our ever-growing PC builds and setups Facebook page, where fine-looking machines such as this one can be jealously coveted from afar. This particular walnut build gives some of the best PC case designs a run for their money. The striped design is very reminiscent of the Fractal Design Torrent, but it’s far more elaborate, especially compared to some of Fractal’s own wooden cases, including the Fractal Design North XL.
This particular PC was shared on our Facebook page by Jason Balok, currently on active service in the US Army. He explained to PCGamesN that his passion for DIY builds is relatively recent, starting out just last year after his son introduced him to gaming, with this particular build being his fifth so far. He started out with some walnut slabs before cutting them down to size, with the case taking about six hours to cut down and put together, and another two to complete the build itself.
The specs itself are reasonable, with an AMD Ryzen 9 5900X gaming CPU in an MSI Mag B550 Tomahawk motherboard. There’s 16GB of DDR4 G.Skill RAM, a 500GB NVMe M.2 SSD, and a Seasonic SFX 750 power supply included. As far as gaming is concerned, this wooden PC comes with an AMD Radeon 6950XT graphics card, fitted in the case using a Cooler Master vertical GPU kit.
One interesting feature that Jason shared was the motherboard’s back plate. Made out of cedar, it lets off an aromatic smell during gameplay sessions, due to the high temperatures — a unique PC feature, it has to be said. Jason’s even managed to secure sponsorship from Noctua in the process, with no less than eight Noctua A12x25 PWM fans keeping this PC cool, along with a Noctua NH-U12A Chromax Black CPU cooler.
While this isn’t a top spec PC based on components alone, it doesn’t need to be – it looks fantastic, especially when you consider that it took less than a day to complete. Jason’s already picked up some fans for his high-quality designs, including Ryan from the PC Battlestations YouTube channel, to whom Jason has already sent a similar black and walnut-themed case for a future build. Ryan reckons not too many people are fans of wooden cases, but with builds like this one to serve as inspiration, we’re hopeful that that’s surely going to change.
This isn’t the only build that Jason has planned, and you can check out more of his progress via his TikTok page and Instagram profile.
