The Call of Duty League concluded the second week of qualifiers for Major 2 with day three last night. With some upsets and big performances here’s everything that went down on the final day of week 2 of Major 2 qualifiers.
Los Angeles Guerrillas 3-1 Seattle Surge
The Los Angeles Guerrillas and Seattle Surge are two of the most inconsistent teams in the Call of Duty League. While they both have insane potential and quality in their rosters, they are both extremely inconsistent and no one knows how they will play on the day. In the first map, Surge came out firing. A 250-152 Tuscan Hardpoint win had all Seattle players positive, and all of the Guerrillas negative.
From this, many expected a dominant win from the Surge. However, LA bounced back with a 6-3 win on Berlin Search and Destroy. Huke dominated in this map, dropping 10 kills with a 2.50 K/D. With both teams struggling in Control, it was expected to see a round five. That’s exactly what happened, with both teams winning two defenses to see a round five. Here, LAG came out and took an offensive round to win the map and take a 2-1 lead in the series.
In the fourth map of this series, the Los Angeles Guerrillas closed it out with a 250-219 win, taking the series 3-1. The Guerrillas were outslayed by two kills here, and by 18 in the series as a whole. However, their teamwork and knowledge of the game allowed them to take the series this time.
Minnesota ROKKR 3-2 LA Thieves
The LA Thieves are statistically the best Hardpoint team in the game, and while they took map one 250-247 on Berlin, this was extremely sloppy by both teams. While both sides had chances to close out the map, LA Thieves managed to get in and hold the final Hardpoint perfectly, allowing ROKKR just one push before the map was finished.
With LA Thieves struggling in Search and Destroy this season, and ROKKR dominating, many expected them to take map two. However, the Thieves looked great, clutching up multiple times and taking the map 6-2, with Envoy and Octane dropping 11 and 10 kills respectively. Minnesota ROKKR got themselves back in the series with a 3-2 Control win on Gavutu. This was dominant in terms of kills, with ROKKR outslaying by 21 kills and taking the map.
ROKKR took this momentum through to map four, getting themselves level 2-2 in the series. The SMG duo of Attach and Standy dominated here on Bocage, with a 1.36 and 1.24 K/D respectively, giving themselves a chance at the reverse sweep. It’s never chalked for Minnesota ROKKR, and it definitely wasn’t this time. ROKKR completed the reverse sweep with a 6-1 game five, absolutely dominating the Thieves and putting themselves 2-2 so far in Major 2 qualifiers, leaving LA Thieves at 0-3.
Atlanta FaZe 3-2 Toronto Ultra
Atlanta FaZe came out strong and took map one in this series 250-118. While CleanX was playing with COVID, this was still a dominant showing from FaZe. They took the lead in the series and firmly looked like the better side. Toronto Ultra tied the series with a 6-3 Search and Destroy on Bocage, dominated by Insight and Cammy who both dropped 10 kills.
The Control took place on Gavutu, and FaZe has had struggles on this map since the start of the season. Toronto pulled through and took the map in some unbelievable rounds, winning 3-2 and taking a 2-1 series lead. Atlanta FaZe hit back with another Hardpoint win to tie the series at 2-2. This was a fairly even map, finishing 250-239 with FaZe being outslayed by 2, but their teamwork prevailed resulting in a map win. Atlanta FaZe closed out the series with a 6-3 Search and Destroy win with Simp putting up 10 kills. This sees FaZe 2-1 in Major 2 Qualifiers, and in with a great chance of Winners Bracket.
