Minnesota Twins fans will love Carlos Correa’s answer to whether if he would consider going back to the Houston Astros.

Carlos Correa was one of the top shortstops available in free agency this past winter. It took a while for him to find a new team, and ultimately he chose to sign with the Minnesota Twins on a three-year, $105.3 million contract that includes player options for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. That has many wondering what Correa would do this upcoming offseason.

On Aug. 23, Correa made his return to Houston for the first time as a member of the Twins, where he took on the Astros, the team that selected him first overall in 2012. Correa was asked if he would consider returning to Houston, and he responded by saying he sees himself playing for the Twins “for a long time.”

Correa spent all but the 2022 season with the Astros. He won the World Series title once, the AL pennant three times, and earned two All-Star Game nominations. Then, after the 2021 World Series, Correa opted to test out free agency.

Correa was among the last shortstops to sign with a team, as Corey Seager and Marcus Semien both signed lucrative deals with the Texas Rangers, and Javier Baez joined the Detroit Tigers.

The Twins emerged after they had dealt Isaiah Kiner-Falefa to the New York Yankees, shortly after they had acquired him from the Rangers. Then, the deal with Correa materialized.

Entering the Aug. 23 game against the Astros, Correa was slashing .269/.352/.431 while recording 14 home runs, 39 RBI, 50 runs scored, and 98 hits through 96 games on the year.

While Correa sees himself playing in Minnesota, it will be interesting to see if he exercises his opt-out at the end of this season.
