Referee Carl Cheffers was the subject of memes after his voice cracked during the Monday Night Football game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders.
The referees were in the spotlight of the Week 5 game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders. That is because of one call in particular — a controversial roughing the passer penalty on Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones following a strip sack on Raiders quarterback Derek Carr. The referee who called the penalty, wiped out the fumble recovery, and gave the Raiders a first down was Carl Cheffers.
Throughout the game, Cheffers and the referees were serenaded with boos. At one point in the game, Cheffers’ lost his voice, which was evident when he went to call a penalty over the microphone at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
Twitter users created some memes at the expense of Carl Cheffers over losing his voice

While the call was a controversial one, it did not turn out to hurt the Chiefs whatsoever.
Kansas City was able to overcome a 17-0 deficit to defeat Las Vegas 30-29. They received some help from tight end Travis Kelce, who caught four touchdown passes from quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
The Raiders were attempting to get into range for a game-winning field goal, but their chances were brought to a halt after wide receiver Davate Adams’ sideline catch was overturned. Then on fourth down, Adams and wide receiver Hunter Renfrow ran into each other, leading to no receivers being near Carr’s pass, and it fell incomplete.
All is well at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium after all, as the Chiefs improved their record to 4-1 on the season.
