According to Capcom’s latest financial report, it expects to reach its year-end sales targets by launching a “major unannounced title” before the end of its current financial year, which is March 2024. The report doesn’t hint at what the game is, but its biggest franchises are Resident Evil and Monster Hunter, both of which would have the ability to help Capcom reach its target. The game was teased in a Japanese Q+A section that was published with Capcom’s financial report (via VGC), but other than the mention of the “major” game’s launch before March 2024, the company is keeping its cards close to its chest on this one. Still, with The Game Awards planned for next month, we might not have to wait long before Capcom reveals this mysterious title!Other than the mobile Monster Hunter Now game, the last console release for the franchise was Monster Hunter Rise, which initially launched on Nintendo Switch in 2021 before making its way to Xbox, PlayStation, and PC in 2022. Between Monster Hunter and Resident Evil (which had the Resident Evil 4 remake launch in March), Monster Hunter is the franchise that’s had a little more cooking time available, so we wouldn’t be surprised if Capcom’s upcoming game will have us slaying behemoths before the series’ 20th anniversary in March. Speaking of Resident Evil, according to Capcom’s financials, Resident Evil 4 has sold 5.45 million copies since its launch in March 2023, pushing the entire Resident Evil franchise’s lifetime sales to over 150 million. Also released this year were Street Fighter 6 and ExoPrimal. Street Fighter 6 has sold over 2.47 million units since its launch in June, while ExoPrimal, which launched straight into Xbox Game Pass, has sold less than 940,000 copies since its launch in July.Capcom says that it’s on track to achieve 11 consecutive years of operating income growth. If its mystery title performs as well as the company hopes, it should reach its target before the end of this fiscal year.
