Alongside its R100 camera, Canon has announced the RF 28mm F2.8 STM, a $299.99 pancake prime lens for its RF system.
The RF 28mm acts as a wide-angle for full-frame cameras or a 45mm equivalent normal lens on APS-C bodies. The lens delivers up to 0.17x magnification at a minimum focusing distance of 0.23m (9 inches). With a maximum outer diameter of 69mm and 25mm long, the lens is modest in profile. At 120g (4.2 oz) is is also rather light as well.
Like other budget R-mount lenses it comes with a single control ring whose function can be swapped from focus to a configurable option of your choice via a switch on the body. Note that the lens lacks an AF/MF switch, meaning that on some older EOS R mount cameras without a focus switch on the body, you will have to go into the menu to select manual focus.
The RF 28mm F2.8 STM lens is scheduled to be available in July 2023 for an estimated retail price of $299.99.

The Canon EOS R100 camera was designed for new, first-time mirrorless camera or existing interchangeable camera users who previously enjoyed EOS Rebel or EOS M cameras. The camera touts key features such as a 24.2 megapixel APS-C size sensor, the DIGIC 8 image processor, 4K (Cropped) and Full HD (Full-Width) video at up to 24 and 60 frames-per-second respectively, Autofocus with eye and face detection, and Bluetooth™ and Wi-Fi® connectivity capabilities.
