Call of Duty won’t be going Xbox-exclusive any time soon, with Microsoft Gaming boss Phil Spencer taking to Twitter to announce that the team had a “desire to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation.”It was clear from both ongoing Call of Duty content exclusivity over on the PlayStation side and Sony’s recent statement about “contractual agreements” that there were long-term deals in place which likely wouldn’t be interfered with, but it’s good to see confirmation from the Xbox boss so we at least know what is going on. When said contracts expire, it’s anyone’s guess what will happen with the blockbuster franchise — one amusing theory posits that Microsoft could make it Xbox-exclusive and offer it via Game Pass, using that as leverage to twist Sony’s arm into allowing Game Pass on PlayStation consoles in order to not lose CoD entirely. Probably not going to happen, but hey, it’s a fun theory.Spencer confirms that Microsoft will “honor all existing agreements upon acquisition of Activision Blizzard,” even going a step further to say that “we value our relationship” with Sony. At the end of the day, competition is healthy for the industry so it’s an admirable stance, especially since there likely exist any number of ways that Microsoft might be able to just take its ball and go home following deals such as this.Surprised? Relieved? Uninterested? Let us know!
