Major League of Legends esports personalities Marc Robert ‘Caedrel’ Lamont and Eefje ‘Sjokz’ Depoortere have announced The League Awards, a new awards show focused on the League of Legends esports scene.

Announced by the pair in separate social media posts, The League Awards will look to “celebrate everyone from the entire scene across the world of LoLesports” according to Lamont, adding that they felt a big awards show was something missing.

Preparation appears to be in the early stages, with Depoortere explaining in her own post that many details are still to be confirmed, though the pair are “very excited” at the prospect of the awards event.

Formerly a professional player in the LEC for teams including Excel Esports and H2k, Caedrel’s popularity skyrocketed after becoming a key member of the league’s broadcast. The continuous growth of his own stream led to him stepping away from the broadcast, with him now co-streaming many of the game’s regional leagues while representing Fnatic as a content creator.

One of esports’ most famous personalities, Sjokz, has been a stalwart within the League of Legends esports scene, working as a stage host for the game’s biggest events. She has also become a prominent host within the Counter-Strike circuit in recent years.

Both figures are represented by esports and gaming agency DotX Talent, whose Chief Operating Officer Mitsouko Anderson said that “a lot of love and passion” has gone into planning the event so far.

The news of a new awards show comes at a time when esports’ biggest awards event — the Esports Awards — has come under significant criticism for its deal with the Esports World Cup that will see the show held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for the next three years. This has led to multiple stakeholders leaving the awards panel.
