Bungie is the next major studio to be hit by layoffs

Bungie is the latest to announce layoffs — the number of employees affected hasn’t been confirmed, but Bungie CEO Pete Parsons took to Twitter to announce that it was a “sad day” at the company.Confirmation of the layoffs at Bungie come from CEO Pete Parsons. There aren’t many details yet, although more and more employees are appearing across Twitter to say they have been affected.”Today is a sad day at Bungie as we say goodbye to colleagues who have all made a significant impact on our studio. What these exceptional individuals have contributed to our games and Bungie culture has been enormous and will continue to be a part of Bungie long into the future,” Parsons says. “These are truly talented people. If you have openings, I would highly recommend each and every one of them.”It seems more changes are underway behind the scenes, as Bloomberg reports that The Final Shape expansion for Destiny 2 has been pushed back to February next year, while its upcoming Marathon game has apparently been pushed back to 2025. Bloomberg also reports having seen an email sent to Bungie employees in which Parsons told staff they’d be “hearing some news today” and said that there was to be a meeting to discuss it.2023 has been a much-troubled year with layoffs across the games industry. January saw confirmation that Microsoft would lay off 10,000 employees. In the months following, BioWare announced layoffs, Epic Games confirmed it was laying off almost 900 employees, and layoffs were also announced for Private Division, CD Projekt Red, and Team17.
