Bugha & Mero Three-Peat as FNCS Champions

Bugha and Mero dominated the FNCS Chapter 3 Season 1 Finals.

Fortnite World Cup 2019 Solo Champion Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf reached another career this evening after claiming his third consecutive Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) title. Months of build-up and uncertainty led to this point. Bugha and Mero started the season with different partners but quickly became the team to beat.

After winning multiple Duos Cash Cups, Bugha and Mero qualified for the FNCS Finals in the first Qualifier. Many expected the two to perform well but not necessarily to dominate. All eyes were on the defending FNCS Champions as they prepared for a 12-game marathon finish.

Day One: Setting the Stage

Consistency breeds success in Fortnite, and that’s what Bugha and Mero exemplified from start to finish on day one. To establish the lead, the two NA East players amassed 188 points after the opening six matches. While there were teams within striking distance, Bugha and Mero accomplished their goal. Their day one statistics included 27 eliminations and four fourth-place results.

Victory would not come without adversity—at least, that’s what we thought. Bugha and Mero had a four-point lead over second-place with six games remaining. Their success on day two depended on consistent endgame placement points and timely eliminations. If Bugha and Mero could continue this pace, no Duo could catch them.

Day Two: Bugha & Mero Shut the Door

No one could have predicted what would unfold on day two after European players Queasy and GUILD Hen rallied from a day one deficit earlier. Despite their uncontested drop and loot, Bugha and Mero needed to maintain their pace. That would play out magnificently across the final six matches.

Day two somehow looked even better than day one for Bugha and Mero; the two NA East standouts put together 23 eliminations and a mind-boggling average placement of 5.50 en route to 206 points. They consistently made the end game and covered each other when needed. It was the ultimate display of competitive Fortnite.

Bugha and Mero claimed $65K USD each while keeping the Axe of Champions, which they earned back in Chapter 2 Season 8. Additionally, this triumph marks the third consecutive FNCS victory for Bugha and Mero.

A Dominant Force Unlike Any Other

Dominance is challenging to define in competitive Fortnite Battle Royale. We’ve seen legends like Williams “Zayt” Aubin and Rocco “Saf” Morales define the word in their era before riding off into the sunset. Bugha might be on another level than everyone else. He is the only Solo Fortnite World Cup Champion, qualified for 12 FNCS Finals and won three major tournaments. Only Slovenian player Tai “Falcon TaySon” Starčič can compare those statistics. There’s overwhelming evidence that Bugha is the greatest Fortnite player of all time.

On the other side, Mero is unquestionably one of Fortnite’s best talents. The number of achievements he has accomplished in a short amount of time is staggering. Mero won multiple Cash Cups and two DreamHack events and is now a five-time FNCS Champion. He performs well at the highest level in all formats. The combination of Bugha and Mero will be challenging to handle for the seasons to come.
