The Atlanta Braves may have lost game 5 to the Houston Astros, but there is no ned for the team or fanbase to panic.
The Atlanta Braves had the chance to close out the World Series at home at Truist Park on Sunday with a win over the Houston Astros. Things looked to be going their way after Adam Duvall crushed a grand slam in the first inning. However, it was the Astros that woke up and stayed alive in the World Series with a 9-5 win over the Braves.
When it comes to Atlanta sports teams, fans think of the blown leads they have had over the years. From the 28-3 lead by the Falcons over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 51 to the 3-1 NLCS lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers last year.
While their World Series lead was cut to 3-2, there is no need for the Braves or the fanbase to panic.
Braves have help on the way in terms of starting pitchers
Manager Brian Snitker relied heavily on his bullpen the past two games due to Charlie Morton fracturing his right fibula in Game 1. Dylan Lee was used as an opener for Game 4, but exited after getting one out in the first inning. Yet, Atlanta went on to win 3-2. Then on Sunday night, Snitker called upon starter Tucker Davidson to take the mound and again used a slew of relievers.
But there is help on the way, as the team has two certified starters in Max Fried and Ian Anderson remaining and available to play in the final two games of the World Series.
Fried has not had the best of postseasons, as evidenced by his 5.40 ERA through four starts this year. Yet, there is the chance for him to have a bounce-back performance. Anderson was great in Game 3, as he carried a no-hitter through five innings before being pulled by Snitker. Not to mention that the bullpen will have a much-needed day of rest as they travel to Houston for the final two games of the series.
Yes, it would have been great for Braves fans to witness the team hoist the Commissioner’s Trophy in Atlanta, but hope is not lost. The bats are still producing runs and there are starting pitchers available.
There is no need to panic just yet. Take Monday to relax before Game 6 on Tuesday night.
