We’ve seen a pretty decent rise in players chasing the Borderlands: Game of the Year achievements, Borderlands 2 achievements, and Borderlands 3 achievements this week, following a terrible box office debut by the Borderlands movie. While the games are yet to break into the top 40 of our Gameplay Chart, there is still a decent Borderlands Xbox player increase this week.Borderlands games see sizeable jumps in Xbox playersBorderlands has been in the spotlight a fair bit this week, and not for the greatest of reasons: Eli Roth’s Borderlands movie flopped with a disastrous opening weekend. Its opening weekend earnings reportedly totaled a measly $16.5 million globally, receiving a Rotten Tomatoes score of just 9%. Yeah, it’s a dreadful blow, but thankfully, it looks like the video games are doing a little better.According to our data (courtesy of Game Insights), which uses a sample of over 2.4 million Xbox accounts, there has been a 33.95% increase in Borderlands 3 Xbox players in the past week. It hasn’t quite made it into the top 40 in this week’s Xbox Gameplay Chart, settling into 50th, but it’s a sizeable jump from last week’s 67th spot. We’ve seen Borderlands 3 steadily rise up through the chart at a decent rate for the last few weeks, likely aided by its inclusion in Xbox’s Ultimate Game Sale in July, where it was on sale with a whopping 75% discount. It was 107th in the chart at the beginning of the month, but has made it to its current position after a 116% increase in Borderlands 3 Xbox players over the last three weeks. As for its predecessors, Borderlands 2 has reached 92nd in the chart after seeing a 35.07% jump in Borderlands 2 players this week. As for Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition, we can’t see where it was in the chart last week as we only collect data for the top 200 most-played Xbox games, but it’s managed to reach 143rd in this week’s Gameplay Chart, so it’s managed to climb 57 places at the very least this week. Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition and Borderlands 2 were both in last month’s Ultimate Game Sale as part of the Borderlands Legendary Collection (which also packs in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel), which was discounted by 60%. Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition was also on sale as a standalone game with a discount of 67%, so a lower entry price and (at the time), the anticipation of the upcoming movie, likely led to a good number of players picking up the games. With any luck, it won’t be long until we hear about the rumored Borderlands 4.Xbox Gameplay Chart data is compiled using data from over 2.4 million active Xbox accounts (not just TrueAchievements accounts). Chart information is copyright Game Insights. Regarding this data:When an account opens a game, this is registered as a game being played. Accounts can only register a game once per week. Our data is good for suggesting general trends — we represent this using percentages, not numbers.
