Bloodborne Down for Maintenance Soon But Don’t Get Your Hopes Up

In early November, Sony published a PS5 ad that fans believe teased a potential announcement. What that announcement could be is still unknown as most of the theories have been shot down, but PlayStation players have brewed up another theory around Bloodborne‘s upcoming online maintenance. However, it seems as much another pipe dream as the rest of the theories.

There is nothing special about the recent Bloodborne maintenance period

In the PS5 ad, the date December 3, 2024, is quickly teased in a frame. While this is probably just a nod to the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation brand, Sony did hold a State of Play when it celebrated its 25th anniversary. Naturally, fans believed another presentation was in order, but those hopes were dashed fairly quickly.

The newest theory involves the recently scheduled Bloodborne maintenance, which will occur today, December 3, 2024. As this date matches the tease, fans had hoped the fabled Bloodborne remaster or remake would finally be unearthed. Unfortunately, that does not seem to be the case. Games industry insider Jeff Grubb promises it is nothing in a recent tweet on X (formerly Twitter).

FromSoftware’s Bloodborne launched for the PS4 back in 2015. Since then, it has been updated quite extensively, even receiving a DLC called The Old Hunters. However, the update fans are clamoring for is a remaster or remake of the beloved game. For some, it’s simply about running the game at a stable 60 frames per second. Maybe one day it’ll receive that update, but today is not that day.

While Sony’s “tease” hasn’t amounted to anything, that doesn’t mean there weren’t surprises during PlayStation’s 30th anniversary. Recently, the company rolled out a new feature update that introduced new, limited-time nostalgic themes and boot screens. The feedback from the community has been so positive, that many have asked to keep it as a permanent feature.
