Blockudoku is a game that mixes ideas from Tetris and Sudoku to create an interesting puzzle game that’s pretty darn addictive. There’s plenty to do, and daily challenges to keep you coming back for more.
But if you want to get the most out of the experience, you’re going to have to get to grips with some of the ideas that underpin it. Which is why we’ve written this guide. It’s packed full of the strategies we’ve discovered during our time playing Blockudoku.
Whether you’ve already placed some blocks or you’re just about to take on your first level, there’s going to be something here to help you out. Here are the best hints, tips and cheats for Blockudoku.
Try not to leave single spaces
One of the most important things you need to learn is that leaving single spaces can cause all sorts of trouble. It’s rare that you’ll get one-block pieces to place on the grid, so a single space can leave you unable to clear a line and a square. Sometimes you’ll have to, but try and avoid it wherever possible.
Look for combos
Clearing a line is great. Clearing a couple of lines or a line and a square at the same time is even greater. Always be on the lookout for ways you can create combos, whether that’s leaving gaps to clear later or placing the blocks you’ve got in certain ways. Combos are amazing because they give you loads more space to play around with.
Don’t wait for pieces
You can’t rely on the piece you need coming in the next round, so try not to anticipate or wait for the right shape to complete a chain. Instead, be flexible, leave as much space as you can and give yourself as many options as you can. If you’re rigid, you’re not going to do very well.
Use the corners
The corners of the grid are your friend. Use them to position large L-shaped blocks so they’re not jutting out awkwardly. You can apply the same principal to the edge of the squares, since you can clear them as well as the lines. Think about the best place to use your pieces at all times.
Look at what you’ve got
Every time you get a new set of blocks, take a moment to look at them and see how they’re best going to fit. If one of them is grayed out, that means there’s nowhere for it to fit at the moment. At times like that you’re going to have to figure out how to clear some space to make sure your game doesn’t end.
