With a new Call of Duty game—Call of Duty: Vanguard—due on November 5, it should come as no surprise Treyarch is looking to conclude the storyline for its Zombies Aether saga in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. They’ve confirmed they’ll be doing this with the release of the final round-based Zombies map at the start of Season 6, which is due to go live on October 7.The final round-based map is called Forsaken and promises to be the “ultimate showdown between Requiem and Omega Group.” So far, the Director of Requiem has revealed he intends to “help” Samantha Maxis to understand the powers she has acquired throughout her time spent in the Dark Aether. Meanwhile, Requiem and Omega both have plans to extract Sergeant Kazimir Zykov, the Soviet soldier who closed the portal at Projekt Endstation, from the Dark Aether. They both think he will be able to stop the destructive force from entering into their world. Omega’s leader Colonel Lev Kravchenko intends to do this by building a huge Aetherial portal in the western Ukraine, but what will Requiem do now they’ve learned this intel?Treyarch has promised more information “in the coming days” in the lead up to Black Ops Cold War’s Season 6 launch, including a gameplay trailer for the new map. For know, the final thing we have is a teaser for an ancient weapon called the Chrysalax that might give Major Mackenzie Carver the “authentic Dark Aether weapon” he’s been craving.Of course, Season 6 will also bring more content for the game’s multiplayer mode, including new maps and game modes. There will likely be a new Operator as well as new weapons and new bundles to purchase in the in-game shop, like those seen in Season 5 Reloaded. Call of Duty: Warzone is unlikely to escape either, and with a Call of Duty: Vanguard-themed Pacific map already promised for later this year just after Vanguard launches, Season 6 may be the final time players will get to be in Verdansk, so expect it to be big.Black Ops Cold War won’t be the end of the Dark Aether saga, however. Vanguard’s Zombies mode is being developed by Treyarch as a prequel to the Dark Aether saga found in Black Ops Cold War, and will serve as a canon look at the early days of the Aether experiments that led to the outbreaks. Black Ops Cold War Season 6 kicks off on October 7th, the game’s final season before the launch of Vanguard.[Source: Treyarch]
