I know that Call of Duty seasons are often overflowing with new content, but good lord would you take a look at Black Ops 6 Season 1. With new maps, modes, perks, scorestreaks, weapons, Zombies experiences, operators, and so much more, its new roadmap is making me all cross-eyed… There’s also a wealth of content heading to Warzone too, including the battle royale’s adoption of BO6’s loadout system and vast arsenal of weapons.
But for now, let’s focus on Black Ops 6 itself. The FPS game is already groaning with content, but it’s about to get even chunkier. When the Black Ops 6 Season 1 release date arrives, we’ll be getting two brand new 6v6 maps called Hideout and Extraction, and a new small Face Off map called Heirloom. Later in the season, the map pool will expand once again to include another Face Off map called Racket, a festive version of Nuketown, and Hacienda, which is a returning 6v6 map from Black Ops 4. If you ask me, it was also BO4’s best, so this is an exciting prospect indeed.
Another Call of Duty classic is returning in Season 1, and that’s the Prop Hunt game mode. Take the form of a barrel, a tree, a signpost, a coffee cup – whatever you can find in order to dupe the hunting team. While Prop Hunt arrives later in the season, at launch you’ll be able to try out Ransack, a completely new mode that is vaguely reminiscent of the action you see in The Finals. You loot gold bars dotted around the map, return them to your team’s stash, and then protect the stash from any enemies that wish to steal your hard-earned ingots.
Also arriving on launch day is a returning scorestreak from Black Ops Cold War: the Hand Cannon. It’s definitely one of the most satisfying scorestreaks to use, and lets you wield a powerful pistol for short period of time that can blow people away before they can say ‘run.’
Two new perks, a fresh wildcard, and several new weapons are also being dropped throughout the season to spice up your best Black Ops 6 loadout. In the weapons front, two of my favorite guns from past Black Ops 6 games – the Krig assault rifle and the Saug SMG – are back and unlockable in the battle pass. On a more distressing note, Dragon’s Breath incendiary rounds for shotguns are also being added, and anyone who knows their CoD history knows they are usually an overpowered disaster. Let’s hope they’re well balanced…
Immediately when Season 1 drops, a new Zombies experience called Directed Mode will be added, which will help guide players through the story quests in Terminus and Liberty Falls. Hardcore players have had their chance to experience this themselves organically, so now it’s time to make these great maps accessible for everyone.
Treyarch has also revealed the name of the game’s third round-based Zombies map, Citadelle de Morts. Unfortunately, this won’t be arriving until December, but at least there are two other great maps to keep us occupied in the meantime.
Of course, Warzone also benefits from the start of Black Ops 6’s seasonal run. The new Area 99 map will hit the battle royale game, and Rebirth Island and Urzikstan will also return to the map pool. On top of that, it will take on all the gameplay characteristics of Black Ops 6 like its dynamic Omnimovement system, its loadout system, the ability to grab other players and turn them into human shields, and more.
Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 1 goes live on Thursday, November 14 in both games. You can read the frankly enormous blog post announcing all the content arriving in Season 1 here.
