If you figured yourself a master of Black Myth: Wukong, developer Game Science has conjured up a new challenge to really test your skills. While Black Myth was already something of a boss rush, a new dedicated mode lets you take on any major enemy you’ve faced before, set the difficulty, and tackle some fresh moves.
One of the breakout hits of 2024, Black Myth: Wukong is already a pretty expansive soulslike RPG. Drawing on the classic Chinese tale Journey to the West, you guide protagonist the Destined One through a demon-infested adventure to gather relics to resurrect Sun Wukong.
Since the action game came out in August, players have had time to gradually complete the main story and any side quests. Developer Game Science seems particularly aware of this, as a boss rush mode has just arrived.
Known simply as ‘Challenge,’ you can now access two new modes: Return of Rivals and Gauntlet of Legends. The first is a rematch with any opponent you’ve already best in the main game, across three difficulties.
The second is where things get real in the fantasy game. Bosses are grouped together for a successive battle, forcing you to tackle them one after the other. How they’re listed isn’t specified, but if a group includes an enemy you haven’t already killed in the story, that whole section won’t be available.
There are customized curses to moderate your odds, and a selection of rare items for anyone who manages to get through such a slog. Even the patch notes state this will be difficult, so be warned.
The update comes with a new set of armor, an unlockable map in each territory, and the usual laundry list of bug fixes too. The patch is rolling out as of today across all platforms. Be sure to have your guides on the best Black Myth builds and the best Black Myth mods handy.
