New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter joined Twitter, and fans gushed over the possibilities.

No. 2 has long avoided the Twitterverse, and I can’t say I blame him given the amount of negativity and angst I notice there on a daily basis.

However, to be on Twitter is to be connected with the outside world and for Jeter, millions of devoted fans. So, he finally caved.

Jeter’s been retired since 2014. In his final season, he slashed .256/.304/.313 with an OPS of .617 and an OPS+ of 76. He had a career slash line of .310/.377/.440 and an OPS of .617 with an average OPS+ of 115.

Jeter was voted into the Hall of Fame nearly unanimously, with only one voter on the other side of the fence.

Yankees fans thrilled that Derek Jeter joined Twitter

Jeter joined Twitter, but failed to do so quietly. His first post was making fun of an attempted troll from eight years ago.

That, as you can imagine, promoted quite the response from around baseball. Jeter is still arguably the most popular player in the sport, despite having not played for nearly a decade.

There were many more, as you can imagine.

Don’t worry, Jetes. It may seem overwhelming at first, but you’ll be a natural soon.
