Best assault rifle Warzone: what is the top AR in Season 5?

Byadmin

Aug 17, 2021

It’s tricky to pick the best assault rifle in Warzone as it’s the weapon class with the most options and the most variation between each pick. You’ve got fast-firing, highly mobile Warzone assault rifles like the FFAR 1 and Groza, all the way up to hard-hitting battle rifles like the Cold War AK47 or Oden. And there are even multiple ways to build each assault rifle in Warzone if you want to make the most out of the best Warzone loadouts.

We’ve already broken down the best SMG in Warzone and the best sniper in Warzone, so it’s time to run through arguably the most widely used weapon type in Call of Duty’s battle royale. Since Warzone Season 4, the devs have made an active effort to reduce the time-to-kill speed on numerous popular weapons. Assault rifles in particular were hit hard, decreasing the damage output across most of the best guns in the game right now.

So, which of these Warzone guns is the best in its class? Naturally a huge part of this call comes down to personal preference, but there’s no escaping the fact that some of the assault rifles in Warzone boast far superior DPS stats or better magazine sizes than others. Join us as we rank all of the best assault rifles in Warzone, starting with the pinnacle of the weapon type and working down to the weakest choice.

Activision Blizzard is facing a lawsuit filed in July by the state of California alleging years of discrimination and harassment. Since then, CEO Bobby Kotick has called the company’s initial response “tone deaf”, employees have staged a walkout, Blizzard president J Allen Brack has left, and the ABK Workers Alliance has demanded change at the company. The lawsuit is ongoing; follow the latest developments here.

The Krig 6 assault rifle in Call of Duty Warzone

KRIG 6

The Krig 6 was already one of our favourite weapons thanks to its low recoil and surprisingly high damage output. The Warzone Season 4 Reloaded nerfed many weapons, but it actually buffed the Krig 6 by increasing its minimum damage from 25 to 26. With all of the nerfs to the other popular assault rifles, the Krig 6 stands out as the go-to option for anyone looking for a powerful short to medium range weapon. Take a look at our best Krig 6 Warzone loadout to see how we customised this accurate assault rifle.

C58

The Warzone Season 4 newcomer has already made a splash in the meta, giving players a difficult choice when it comes to picking an assault rifle. The C58 has well balanced stats in almost every category, making it an easy weapon to pick up for the first time. Using our best C58 loadout, the only thing you’ll need to watch out for is its slow fire rate compared to other assault rifles. This makes it slightly harder to pick off enemies at close range, but that’s not really what this weapon was made to do.

FARA 83

When the FARA 83 was introduced in the Season 2 Reloaded update, this assault rifle was largely ignored as it couldn’t compete with the top weapons. Season 3 brought about huge balance changes, including numerous buffs to the FARA 83 to introduce it to the meta. This assault rifle has become a staple pick for many players in Season 4, and that isn’t going to change any time soon. If you’re looking for a great assault rifle to pick off enemies from mid to long range, check out our best FARA 83 loadout.

EM2

You might not think the EM2 is worth using if you pick it up in Warzone’s ground loot, but don’t let that deter you from this powerful assault rifle. When set up with the correct attachments, the EM2’s poor aim down sight speed can be drastically improved, making the gun instantly viable. Try out the best EM2 loadout to understand what makes this weapon so special.

XM4

The XM4 hasn’t been involved in the Warzone meta since it was introduced back in Season 1 with the Cold War integration. Since then, the developers have made an effort to buff underused weapons. After the XM4 received some much needed buffs, it has become one of the most versatile weapons in the entire game. Give our best XM4 loadout a read to see how you can build this incredible assault rifle.

The stock CR-56 AMAX assault rifle in Call of Duty: Warzone's preview menu

CR-56 AMAX

The CR-56 AMAX takes the higher damage of assault rifles like the Scar and AK-47 and rolls in more manageable recoil and a faster rate of fire. Crucially, it’s magazine capacity can be extended far beyond that of the Oden and Scar, making is viable for squad fights. Despite receiving a nerf recently, this assault rifle is still worth including in your loadouts. Try our CR-56 AMAX Warzone setup for high damage, decent ranged performance, and recoil that won’t send half your shots skyward.

M4A1

This Warzone assault rifle is a beast in multiplayer and that’s still true in Warzone. Almost no recoil can be reduced to zero recoil with a couple of attachments, the iron sights are so good you don’t need an optic, you can pop a 60-round mag on it, and top it all off with a monolithic suppressor to keep you off the radar. High rate of fire, solid damage profile, and the easiest to control recoil. Ever. Try out our M4A1 loadout for Warzone to get the best out of this AR.

GRAU 5.56

The Grau 5.56 was initially lower down our list as on paper it’s not massively impressive. However, the Grau is phenomenally easy to use with almost no recoil, high bullet velocity, and low damage dropoff over long distances. Roll those qualities together with the best Grau loadout for Warzone and you’ve got an AR that can hold its own in all situations and you can use without having Shroud-like aim. Recent nerfs have limited the Grau 5.56’s effectiveness over extremely long range, but it’s still very powerful in most situations.

CW AK-47

The Season 3 update buffed the Cold War AK-47 by adjusting its recoil when firing from a distance. This weapon was already a viable option if you dealt with the heavy recoil, and now you get the best of both worlds. The CW AK-47 is one of the most powerful assault rifles in the game, featuring an impressive TTK speed if you can land your shots. As a sniper support weapon, there’s arguably no better gun than the Cold War AK-47. If you want to get the most out of this weapon, check out our best Warzone AK47 loadout to see the gun’s true potential.

RAM-7

This has very similar stats to the M4A1 but its recoil tends to be much more horizontal, making it trickier to track targets with. If you can master the handling then the higher rate of fire will give you an edge in most fights, especially in close-quarters scraps when you either don’t have an SMG or don’t have time to swap to one. Here’s our best Warzone Ram 7 loadout for beating that recoil.

FFAR 1

If you’re looking for an assault rifle with excellent mobility and low recoil, there’s nothing better than the FFAR 1. Despite receiving a number of nerfs in the Season 3 update, this weapon is still a popular pick among players. Give our best FFAR 1 Warzone loadout a try – you might be surprised at how powerful this weapon can truly be with the right attachments.

FAL

Players have been ignoring this semi-automatic assault rifle in Warzone for far too long. Unfortunately, if you’re still overlooking this rifle then you missed its glory days – it’s ludicrously fast time-to-kill has been tempered through a couple of nerfs. It’s still great, but it’s no longer at the top of the assault rifle pecking order. We’ve assembled the best FAL Warzone setup to help you plan your build out.

The stock Groza from Black Ops Cold War in Call of Duty Warzone's preview menu

GROZA

Assault rifles that specialise in short distances are hard to come by in Warzone, but the Groza seems to be designed as a close quarters weapon. The rapid fire rate of the Groza, coupled with the low recoil make this weapon a force to be reckoned with. You’ll want to look at our best Groza Warzone loadout to see what attachments can transform this assault rifle. When equipped with larger magazines and a Spetsnaz Speedgrip, this gun is capable of dealing high amounts of damage in an instant.

AS VAL

The AS VAL is a very situational Warzone assault rifle. Instead of being a great option for mid-range battles, the AS VAL is arguably better used as an SMG. In close-quarters fights its time-to-kill rivals that of the might MP5, and like that SMG, the AS VAL suffers from damage drop-off at medium and long distances. It also has a pitifully small magazine, so you won’t be able to wipe a squad up close without changing mags. Still, if you find yourself 1v1 up close then you’ll be very glad you brought the AS VAL along. Check out our best Warzone AS VAL loadout for a solid setup.

KILO 141

The Kilo 141 is pretty much indistinguishable from the Grau 5.56, that is until you strap the 100-round drum mag on it and use it to take on entire teams single-handedly. As we’ve said many times over, mag size matters in Warzone, and if you need to clutch then having 100 rounds to fire before taking a break is a huge help. Check out our Kilo 141 Warzone setup to see how to get the best out of this AR. Despite its similar stats, you’ll find this takes a little too long to down at range in Warzone, so we still hand the edge to the Grau.

AN-94

This assault rifle with an odd hyperburst feature doesn’t quite perform in Warzone. Its potential is very tempting, especially if you can perfect the art of burst-firing while tracking a moving enemy, but most players won’t be able to achieve the incredible theoretical time-to-kill stats in a live match. In any case, here’s our best Warzone AN94 loadout.

ODEN

Need we say any more than that this is the assault rifle used by Shroud in Warzone? Fine. In terms of flat damage per shot, the Oden is in a class of its own. So, provided you can land all of your shots, you’ll find that this slow-firing bullpup will absolutely tear chunks out of enemies. Between middle and long-range it’s one of the best guns in the game, although you’ll want to make sure you’re speccing it for recoil as it really is one of the weapons that will not forgive your poor aim.

If you can adapt to this AR, then it’s probably the best option. However, we factor in practicality for this list, so if you’re looking for something that’s easy to use then steer clear of the Oden. Here’s our best Warzone Oden loadout.

Best Warzone Scar loadout

FN SCAR

The high damage is a nice treat, but 20-round mags as standard just don’t cut it in Warzone, and you can’t extend it much further than that – 30 is the max. Absolutely usable, but not versatile enough for this demanding game mode. We have managed to put a Warzone Scar loadout together that deals heaps of damage, although you’ll still need to be careful about the fights you take.

FR 5.56

Burst-fire makes this wildly unpredictable in fights as your damage output changes massively if you just graze a foe with a burst or if you land the full 3-round burst at chest height. It can get you through a fight in a pinch, but we’d suggest avoiding this AR if you can. There was a Warzone FR 5.56 loadout that exploited an under-barrel shotgun glitch, but that’s now been fixed, once again relegating this weapon to the bottom of the pile.

M13

The M13 has gone from totally off-meta, to one of the most popular Warzone assault rifles around. Despite its poor damage and low bullet velocity, the M13 has some redeeming features including its potentially laser-precise recoil, so here’s our best M13 Warzone setup.

And that’s all there is to know about the best assault rifles in Warzone. The latest season has introduced red door locations to ’80s Verdansk, transporting players that walk through them to a random location on the map. The portal will always take you to a room filled with high-tier loot, so we’d highly recommend checking these red doors out when you get the chance.
