Take the blocky aesthetics and satisfying base building of Minecraft, combine it with the RTS elements of Age of Empires, and throw in the destructive delights of Besiege. What you’ve created is Castle Craft, a new action sandbox game all about constructing the ultimate fortress and demolishing any foe that attempts to stop you. Developed by Twin Earth and set to launch in April, you can try Castle Craft right now thanks to a new, free demo available as part of Steam Next Fest.
Twin Earth describes Castle Craft as a world “where chaos reigns and creativity knows no bounds.” It’s a block-based blend of RTS and sandbox game that lets you construct giant castles and then defend them against hordes of dangerous foes. As the esteemed right hand of King Debimius, you’ll build all manner of magnificent structures, considering their layout and outfitting them with traps, weapons, and other mechanics to help you hold out against the incoming threats.
Of course, that’s a lot of work for just one person. Fortunately, you don’t need to do it all yourself. You can assign workers to gather the resources you need, run farms to mount up supplies, and even do the hard labor building your elaborate designs. You’ll also want to train and equip them to join you in battles so they can help you ensure your fortress is truly unassailable. Don’t forget to make sure you keep some upgrades for yourself, however.
Once danger arrives, you’ll be able to take to the field alongside your troops. On top of the mix of units and siege weaponry, there’s also the option to unleash magical powers to help turn the tide of the war. With a fully destructible environment, your strongest weapons and spells will leave a permanent mark on the landscape – but perhaps that will create even more opportunities to set up for the next assault.
A Castle Craft demo is now available to download for free as part of Steam Next Fest, which runs through Monday March 3. The full game is planned to launch in April 2025. The demo includes one fully playable kingdom featuring 12 unit types, 12 abilities, and dozens of building elements and traps to use across 15 waves of foes. Head here to give it a try.
