World War II has been extensively fictionalized, not least in videogames, where numerous shooters, strategy and simulation games cover the conflict. One area that’s relatively rare among all of these is submarines and underwater combat. UBOAT comes at WWII from that perspective, and military sim fans can now get it on Steam for a new, low price.
UBOAT is a war game that places you in control of a sub during the Second World War. Crossing strategy game and simulation game mechanics, the struggle comes from keeping everything ticking over amid tackling enemies, the ocean, and the constant issues that emerge from the vessel’s engineering.
Really, it’s a survival game, because if everyone doesn’t work together, they all die. You need to monitor every section of the ship, as well as navigating, firing weapons, and the omnipresent managing resources. Coming out in August 2024, it’s maintained a positive reception on Steam.
It’s a stressful experience, and not one for the faint-hearted. But definitely worthwhile if you enjoy realistic simulators, war history, and have been wanting something that isn’t another FPS game, this will definitely suffice, especially since it’s on sale for its lowest price yet on Steam.
