Battlefield 6 gameplay leaks suggest promising return to form

A slew of Battlefield 6 gameplay leaks have appeared on social media now that the Battlefield Labs test sessions are underway. Although we’re yet to learn when we’ll be collecting the Battlefield 6 achievements, or if it will even be called Battlefield 6, we do know the Xbox first-person shooter will return to a modern setting. Judging by what we’ve seen in the leaks, the gameplay appears to be inspired by Battlefield 3, and I couldn’t be happier! Tom — Battlefield 6 has impressed me, even in pre-alphaBattlefield 6 is expected to launch sometime before April 2026EA is testing the game with players via Battlefield LabsDespite NDAs players have already started sharing gameplay clips onlineAfter Battlefield 2042 all but hammered the final nail in the coffin for the franchise, EA has thrown a megaton of resources at its next entry in the series, which we’ve been referring to as Battlefield 6. Alongside assembling Battlefield Studios — the biggest team to ever work on the franchise — which includes Criterion, DICE, Motive, and Ripple Effect, EA is also involving its players via Battlefield Labs.Battlefield Labs is designed for “player-driven testing and innovation,” where fans can test various parts of the upcoming game via play sessions on console and PC. Once you’ve signed up for Labs, the sessions are invite-only, and you’ll need to sign a non-disclosure agreement before playing, but that hasn’t stopped some players from sharing their gameplay online.Just a quick glimpse at the Battlefield subreddit reveals a plethora of gameplay clips from a recent Battlefield Labs session, and despite the game still being in pre-alpha, Battlefield 6 is off to a promising start. The first thing that caught my eye was the map design. Players have been playing on an urban map with tight corridors, streets lined with buildings, and roads littered with obstacles. Bomb craters, burnt-out vehicles, chunks of buildings, and myriad of other forms of debris give the environments character — a far cry from the empty maps found in 2042. Destruction physics appear to have been amped up a ton for Battlefield 6. We had seen some awesome-looking destruction in the ten-second tease shared with the Battlefield Labs announcement, but these gameplay leaks showcase it in action. In one clip, a player is walking below a building held up by pillars, which is getting blasted by what looks like a Bradley IFV. Large pieces of concrete can be seen getting blasted out of the pillars before the building begins to crumble and the front wall falls to pieces. Not only does it look great, but it sounds great too, with the Bradly’s cannon sounding powerful and punchy. In fact, from what I’ve seen so far, Battlefield Studios seems to have put a ton of work into audio design, and the entire city sounds like it’s in a warzone (as it should). Tanks can be heard from a distance as they rumble through the city streets, bullets whizz and pop as they fly through the air, explosions sound powerful, and things like smoke grenades let out a loud hiss as they fill the surrounding area with smoke. So far, Battlefield 6 looks and sounds awesome. I’ve seen one clip where a player appears to be shot by a sniper and is launched backwards as they die. It’s not clear if the bullet caused them to fly back or if the sloped terrain caused the animation, but it looked great. If it was the sniper’s bullet that caused it, higher-caliber weapons could feel far punchier in this entry.Sure, Battlefield 6 is still in the pre-alpha stage, and the game still has a ton of polish and likely many changes ahead of it before we see it launch, but it already looks promising. Battlefield 3 and 4 look like they’ve been inspirations for this entry, which can only be good news. Is this the return to form many of us have been hoping for? It certainly has the potential to be, and EA appears to be listening to its fans.I can’t wait to dive into the next Battlefield, and I have already shared the three things I want to see in Battlefield 6. How about you? Are you looking forward to Battlefield 6? Drop down below and let us know!
