EA and DICE have dropped the official trailer for Battlefield 2042’s Hazard Zone, the “tense, squad-focused survival experience combining edge-of-your-seat gameplay with the best of the Battlefield sandbox.””Inserted as a four-member squad, you must locate and retrieve critical Data Drives scattered throughout the battlefield, while competing against opposing squads with the same objective and local militias,” the devs explain. “Succeed by gathering the Data Drives and choosing when to extract before a storm overtakes the area in this high-stakes, one-life experience. Every bullet, every skirmish, and every decision counts.” According to the devs, you’ll start at the Mission Area Briefing screen. Here, you’ll see which parts of the map have a higher chance of holding Data Drives or enemies. It might be safer to head into areas where there’s less chance of enemies, but there will also be less Data Drives to find. “Using that briefing information you and your squad will then select your Specialists and Loadout. Every squad is composed of four unique Specialists, so you and your teammates will need to pick Specialists and Loadouts that complement one another if you’re to extract safely.” The devs continue, saying, “As you make your way toward the Data Drives from satellite capsules that have fallen already, even more capsules will plunge to the earth as the match goes on. These capsules will contain more Data Drives than the ones that came before, so you and your squad will have to make the call on whether it’s worth the greater risk to pursue richer rewards.” This is all while the storm gets more and more violent. You’ll only have a short amount of time to get onboard when heading to an Extraction Zone, and once the first extraction has taken place, the storm becomes wilder, meaning you’ll need to decide whether to focus on getting Data Drives or escaping in the next extraction. What do you think of Hazard Zone so far? Let us know in the comments!
