Update: DICE and EA have now confirmed a delay for Battlefield 2042. In a statement posted on Twitter, DICE GM Oskar Gabrielson explained that the pandemic “created unforeseen challenges” for the game’s development teams, and the extra time was needed to “deliver on the vision of Battlefield 2042 for our players.” Battlefield 2042 will now launch on November 19th instead of October 22nd. Original Story: According to multiple industry insiders Battlefield 2042 could be delayed, with some suggesting the multiplayer first-person shooter could be pushed back into 2022. The rumours seem to have started from a Jeff Grubb tweet, which teased that a delay for an unspecified game would be announced sometime this week. Later, Youtuber Dealer Gaming tweeted that he’d heard Battlefield 2042 had been delayed until 2022. Tom Henderson, who has proven very reliable with Call of Duty and Battlefield leaks in the past, has heard slightly differently and believes Battlefield will be delayed by “several weeks and not months.” Henderson believes the situation is unfolding internally right now but says, “We will definitely hear what’s up by the end of the week.” It’s been somewhat quiet on the Battlefield 2042 front in recent weeks, which is odd considering the game is down for an October 22nd launch. EA previously announced the game’s open beta would kick off sometime in September, but we’re still waiting for an official start date now halfway through the month. We’ve reached out for clarification from EA regarding these rumours, and we’ll update you if we hear anything back.
