If you’re planning on working through the Baldur’s Gate 3 achievements later this year, you’ll have the chance to play the Xbox RPG with user-created content, as Larian is rolling out Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox mods “shortly after their release on PC in September.Baldur’s Gate 3 mods are coming to XboxAs revealed by Larian Studios in a Steam blog post, Baldur’s Gate 3 mods are expected to first roll out on PC sometime in September before arriving on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and Mac “shortly after.” Players on console won’t have access to the official modding toolkit, but will only be able to “browse, install, and use player-created mods.” The mods will roll out a part of Path 7, which will include the previously announced evil endings, as well as quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes. Similar to other games, such as Dying Light 2’s community maps, Baldur’s Gate 3 will use Mod.io to host its cross-platform mods. It’s worth noting that, much like many mod-supporting console games, not every user-created mod on PC will make it to console, as Larian will be performing Terms of Service checks for each creation.”On PC, general stability and Terms of Service checks will be carried out before a mod becomes available in the game’s browser,” Larian says. “On console, an additional curation process confirms which of these PC mods become available for cross-platform support. While not all PC mods will become available for console, we’ll be sure to publish guidelines to help you understand what kind of content will pass our necessary checks – without blocking any unsupported creative mods on PC – so that we can continue supporting the modding community both inside and outside our official pipeline.”Larian is currently inviting Steam modders to test Patch 7 and the Baldur’s Gate 3 modding toolkit for a closed alpha test. Then in July, the developer will host a closed beta for around 1,000 players before preparing the full rollout for some time in September. While Larian recently revealed that it’s finished with D&D, the developer will continue to update Baldur’s Gate 3. It has also got “two very ambitious RPGs” in development after opening its seventh studio, but we’ll likely need to wait a while before we hear anything about them.
