Balatro wins Mobile Game of the Year at The Game Awards 

Roguelike indie card game Balatro has won the 2024 Mobile Game of the Year award. 

At The Game Awards on December 13, Balatro was honoured alongside a strong lineup of nominees, including Zenless Zone Zero, Wuthering Waves, and Pokémon TCG Pocket.

Balatro not only won Mobile Game of the Year but also received nominations for Best Debut Indie Game and Indie Game of the Year, ultimately winning three awards.

While it didn’t win iPhone game of the year, Apple named Balatro Apple Arcade Game of the Year in its 2024 App Store Awards. However, at our very own Pocket Gamer Awards, Balatro won two awards, one for Best Digital Board Game of the Year and the other for Best Mobile Port.

Big earner 

Two months after it launched on the App Store and Google Play, Balatro has generated nearly $4.4 million in mobile revenue on the App Store and Google Play. 

Initially launched on PC and console in February, it expanded to mobile on September 26th, earning $1 million in its first week. Following a surge in spending, the game reversed a six-week decline and surpassed the $4 million milestone.

Balatro is available for $9.99 on iOS and Android. The game revolves around building strong poker hands, creating card combos, finding Jokers, and defeating Boss Blinds. Players earn currency to purchase stronger cards for future battles.
