Back 4 Blood stages Steam comeback with heaps of positive reviews

The world has forever been crying out for a successor to Left 4 Dead. There have been a few attempts to try and recapture that magic, such as Redfall, Vermintide 2, or World War Z, but nothing really hits that spot like Left 4 Dead did. The nearest anyone has come is underrated shooter Back 4 Blood, created by the developer behind the original co-op FPS zombie experience. Despite some ups and downs in its history, the game is currently doing pretty well thanks to a big sale and reviews that are beginning to finally turn positive.

This isn’t the first time a sale has seen Back 4 Blood make a return on Steam, but this current surge in popularity feels notable precisely because it coincides with the FPS game’s reviews improving. At the time of writing recent reviews are sitting at a 76% ‘mostly positive’ rating, which is definitely better than its all-time 67% ‘mixed’ rating.

There doesn’t appear to be a particular reason for this reappraisal, with most recent reviews simply calling out Back 4 Blood for being a fun experience. It may be that a decent discount has just forced players to look again at what they may have once written off, with those who might not have bothered with the title at full price finding this sale a much more palatable jumping-in point.

“Only a handful of people have realised the value that Back 4 Blood offers and it is a shame how few get to truly experience it,” reads one review. Another calls it an “absolutely fantastic FPS,” before going on to effuse that they “really have enjoyed it since its release.”

In addition to Steam reviews trending upwards, its player count is also soaring with Back 4 Blood hitting a 24-hour peak of 12,188 concurrent people in-game at the same time. While this is far below its initial release numbers, it’s a healthy bump that may prove there’s hope for this title yet.

Back 4 Blood is currently 90% off on Steam until Monday November 4. If you’d like to hop into the action you can head over to the game’s store page to check it out for yourself.
