Atari was at one point a juggernaut within the gaming industry, but its days of being the top dog have been gone for quite so time. There was a time when Atari was focused on a comeback through the free to play and mobile gaming space, though that time has officially ended.According to a report from GamesIndustry.Biz via VGC, the board of directors has approved a new business strategy in which they will now apply their focus towards developing premium games for consoles and PC.“Our intent with any gaming experience is to provide accessible and joyful moments of meaningful play. That’s the core of Atari and what binds our history with our future,” said Atari’s new CEO Wade J. Rosen. “To that end, we feel that premium gaming is better representative of this type of gaming experience and the Atari DNA.”There’s no word yet on what exactly these premium titles will look like, though whatever it will be we’ll undoubtedly see it come to PS4 and PS5. According to the same report, Atari even aims to have their first new ‘premium game’ out before the end of this current fiscal year, which would put it anywhere between now and March 31, 2022.Whatever it is will be interesting to see as Atari has been out of the console space for some time, though we last heard in April that they’ll be revitalizing old classics, so a collection of their old catalogue or a full scale remake could be two possibilities.Source – [GamesIndustry.Biz via VGC]
