As transfer decision looms, JT Daniels schedules visit to West Virginia

Transfer quarterback JT Daniels has scheduled an official visit to West Virginia to see his former OC with his transfer decision expected soon.

College football has a weird way of bringing things full circle. In the case of JT Daniels, that circle is a bit of a curlicue.

Daniels started his career at USC and spent one season under offensive coordinator Graham Harrell before transferring to Georgia. In a twist of fate, Daniels could end up playing for Harrell again, this time at West Virginia.

The quarterback has scheduled an official visit to the Mountaineers on Apr. 9, according to Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports.

JT Daniels transfer: QB schedules visit for West Virginia

Daniels’ choice to visit West Virginia is fascinating because his decision to leave USC seemed partially connected to Harrell.

Daniels was the incumbent starter when Harrell took over as offensive coordinator. He won the starting job coming out of camp and played one half of football before suffering a torn ACL in the season opener. Freshman backup Kedon Slovis took over as the starter and proceeded to set records for the Trojans.

While USC’s staff indicated there would be an open competition for the starting job in 2020, Daniels left presumably seeing the writing on the wall that Slovis was Harrell’s guy.

All three figures in that story — Daniels, Harrell and Slovis — are no longer at USC. Daniels went to Georgia. Harrell was displaced by the Trojans hiring Lincoln Riley and landed at West Virginia. Slovis dealt with injuries, was unseated by Jaxson Dart and opted to transfer to Pitt.

Daniels lost the starting job at Georgia, again because of injury troubles, and ended up back in the transfer portal. He has visited Oregon State and Missouri but if he picks West Virginia he just might get to show what might have been at USC.
