Circana’s Mat Piscatella has weighed in on the topic of Grand Theft Auto VI potentially costing $100, after it was reported by an analyst recently that there was ‘hope‘ in the industry that the Rockstar Games title would cost more than your average AAA title. This is getting so much run but it’s ridiculous. There’s no need to make the base price of any game $100. Special editions, collector’s editions, gold/silver editions, etc etc do the same thing, and a high % of day 1 buyers jump on those at their elevated price points. There’s just no need.Related Content – Upcoming PS5 Games 2025: The Best PS5 Games Coming SoonMeanwhile, IGN spoke to a number of analysts on the matter, and the general consensus seems that GTA VI won’t cost more than $70, which is the standard price nowadays for triple-A titles. One analyst, Rhys Eilliot of MiDiA, commented: There’s no need to make the base price of any game $100. Special editions, collector’s editions, gold/silver editions, etc, do the same thing, and a high percentage of day-one buyers jump on those at their elevated price points. There’s just no need.GTA 6 is going to be a cultural phenomenon and could bear a $100 price point, but player backlash would be significant, which would be a short-term gain at a long-term cost. Maximizing day-one premium revenues and giving mass consumers sticker shock is not the play here, especially in today’s economy. Many gamers will play through GTA 6’s single-player; online is where the engagement – and recurring revenue spend – happens. It’s where the actual revenue comes in. Rockstar would not want to limit its total addressable market there.Grand Theft Auto VI is in production for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, with a release date pencilled in for Fall 2025.[Source – Mat Piscatella on BlueSky, IGN]
